Alcohol Abuse - Bigger in the UK or the US?

I was reading: today, a piece titled:

Alcohol To 'Kill 250,000 Over Next 20 Years

According to  Lisa Dowd, the Sky News correspondent who wrote the article, "Health experts have warned of up to 250,000 extra alcohol-related deaths in England and Wales over the next 20 years unless the Government takes urgent action."

Stats say:

Alcohol In The UK

:: 31% of men and 20% of women drink more than the advised weekly limit. :: More than one in 25 adults are dependent on alcohol. :: An estimated 17m working days are lost each year due to the effects of alcohol.
A woman drinker slumps on the pavement in Bristol

These are UK stats, I wonder what they look like in the US.... Hrmmm...

After speaking with a US based Womens Alcohol Rehab I left under the impression the stats in the US are even higher!

How many people do you know currently abusing alcohol?
